Marina

Subject to regulatory approval, there will be a centralized marina facility (Phase 2) next to the Boat Launch. The marina makes it convenient for waterfront lot owners that do not want their own dock to have a docking facility and for view lot owners to have their own boat slip. Click here for marina plans.

Docks, Swim Platforms, and Mooring Balls

You can put these in front of your waterfront lot.  If you desire a dock that is larger than 20 square meters and has fixed attachments to the lake bottom, then you will require a permit that is coordinated by BC Front Counter

Lake Level Impact on Marina

Galena Bay is over 2 km wide.  It takes the ferry 20-25 minutes to cross the lake (4.4 km wide between Shelter Bay and Galena Bay ferry landings).  Even at low water, Galena Bay and Arrow Lakes are not affected by changes in water level.  Arrow Lake 10 minutes South of Galena Bay is over 950' (287m) deep.

Arrow Lakes can fluctuate as much as 50' (15m) so it is preferable to have a docking system that adapts to changing water levels (e.g. floating or movable).  The dam at Castlegar (Lower Arrow Lake) had a power station upgrade in 2008 that requires the dam to maintain a higher level in the lake year around.  This is not official policy.  However, the reality is that the economics of power generation means that it is likely that Arrow Lakes will only fluctuate 30' (9m) henceforth.  Shuswap Lakes fluctuates 14' (4m)and Kootenay Lake rises and falls 17' (5m).  This is part of the natural flushing system of these lakes.

Full pond occurs around July 1 each year.  During the months of usage for water oriented activities (late spring, summer, and early fall) the lake is full.  Low water occurs in late November or early December.  This is a good opportunity to get out on the lake bed and remove any dangerous debris, inspect the anchors for the marina and do any repairs that are necessary.
