Mountain view at Galena Bay in Arrow Lakes

Location

Galena Shores is 30 miles South of Revelstoke, BC on Highway 23.  You then take the ferry (about 20-25 minutes) across (West to East) Upper Arrow Lake from Shelter Bay to Galena Bay where the ferry docks.  Galena Shores is outlined in yellow.  The ferry docks several kilometers South of the development.

Galena Bay

Galena Bay is a quiet secluded bay ringed on 3 sides by mountains.  The Monashees break the weather from the West, Storm Point stops the wind from the North, and the Selkirks protect the bay from the East.  The result is the only weather that can get into Galena Bay comes from the South, which it does infrequently.

Clear, Clean Water

The water in Arrow Lakes comes from the Columbia River System.  These waters are cold (except for swimmable Galena Bay) and in Upper Arrow Lake are very clear.  This is because the water is decanted by two dams before it gets to the Arrow Lakes: the Revelstoke Dam and the Mica Dam.  You will probably never see such clear lake water as you will see in Upper Arrow Lake.

Traffic, What Traffic?

The ferry accommodates 40 cars, so once every 30 minutes Highway 23 transports 40 cars.  There is of course incidental driving in between but you will be pleasantly surprised at the lack of traffic.  Motorcyclists come from all over the world to bike Highway 23 and Highway 6 with its perfect combination of little traffic, tremendous scenery, and gentle turns.
